The capital of Baix Penedès recorded an accumulation of 140 mm of rain between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday, with figures approaching 200 mm along the coast. This intense rainfall caused tense moments and mobilized rescue teams.
Early in the morning, two people had to be rescued when their car became trapped at the mouth of the La Bisbal stream, between Calafell and El Vendrell. The vehicle risked being swept towards the sea by the strong current. Fortunately, both individuals were safely extracted.
The force of the water also necessitated the evacuation of nearly a hundred young people from a nightclub in Coma-ruga. Initially, they were taken to the shelter of a nearby gas station, and later, the El Vendrell City Council organized a bus to take them to a school for refuge from the cold and the downpour.
The floods left significant scenes, such as the overflow of the Coma-ruga lake and adjacent streets, which turned into a large pool of water. The situation affected various areas of the town.
The mayor of El Vendrell, Kenneth Martínez, closely monitored the operations from the beginning of the downpour. He highlighted that, as morning arrived, normality was gradually being restored and emphasized that there were no personal injuries.
