The town of El Vendrell officially launched its status as the 2026 European City of Sport this March 2nd during a ceremony at the Quim Tomàs sports hall.

The event was attended by the Minister of Sports of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Berni Álvarez, alongside local officials. The celebration featured performances by local sports associations, including artistic skating and rhythmic gymnastics.
The highlight of the evening was the official flag handover from ACES Europe. This distinction recognizes El Vendrell for its exemplary sports policies, modern facilities, and high level of community participation across all age groups.

"This recognition also rewards the strength and work of sports entities and the significant number of sports practitioners of all ages in the municipality."
