The Palau Bofarull of the Diputació de Tarragona, located in Reus, is showcasing the exhibition 'Autour. Els Hàbitats de Nicole Florensa' until June 13, commemorating the artist's birth centenary.

This exhibition, produced by the Apel·les Fenosa Museum in El Vendrell, highlights Nicole Florensa's artistic journey through a selection of engravings, watercolors, photographs, and paintings. The inauguration was attended by the president of the Diputació de Tarragona, who emphasized the importance of recognizing the artist's legacy.

"We aim to reclaim her as a female artist, as she has not been sufficiently recognized despite the excellence of her works."

Noemí Llauradó · President of the Diputació de Tarragona
The exhibition's curator and director of the Apel·les Fenosa Museum also participated in the event. Nicole Florensa found essential inspiration in the Baix Penedès region from the late 1950s onwards, where nature, light, and landscape shaped her free and exploratory vision. Eschewing academic tradition and influenced by Japanese painters and engravers, her first burin engravings date back to 1962, demonstrating remarkable technical mastery. From 1970, she became a virtuoso of the mezzotint technique, which allows for the creation of whites from a total black.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Nicole Florensa was the driving force behind the creation of the Apel·les Fenosa Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of her husband, the sculptor Apel·les Fenosa. The exhibition at Palau Bofarull engages in a dialogue with the Apel·les Fenosa Museum's proposal in El Vendrell, contextualizing Florensa's work within her shared vital, intellectual, and creative environment with Fenosa and his circle.
This dialogue is materialized in the activity 'From Reus to El Vendrell: a journey through Florensa, Rodoreda and Fenosa', scheduled for May 30. This free initiative includes bus transport and will connect both exhibitions through a joint visit. The exhibition in Reus can be visited during the usual opening hours of Palau Bofarull, from Tuesday to Saturday, from eleven in the morning to one in the afternoon and from five to eight in the evening.
