Residents of Santa Oliva and El Vendrell, near the Camí dels Molins area, have expressed concern over the condition of an abandoned farmhouse. According to them, the property has become a meeting point for drug users, creating a sense of insecurity in the neighborhood.
The situation worsened last Monday when a fire broke out at the farmhouse. Flames, visible from several kilometers away, and a dense plume of smoke alerted the local population.
The Santa Oliva City Council had previously warned the owners about the need to control access to the building and prevent it from continuing to be a source of problems. The mayor, Christian Martínez, confirmed that municipal technicians had already assessed the farmhouse's condition, deeming it dilapidated and risky, and recommending its demolition.
Following the fire, the local administration's demand for action has intensified. The flames have further compromised the weak structure, causing partial roof collapse and increasing the risk of falling debris.
The causes of the fire are still under investigation. It is not ruled out that they were accidental, possibly caused by a cigarette butt amidst the accumulated dirt inside and the dry surrounding vegetation.
