The Ministry for Ecological Transition has approved a 1.4 million euro investment for emergency coastal works in Calafell and Illa de Buda following the severe Harry storm in early 2026.

In Calafell, the focus is on Mas Mel beach, where significant erosion has endangered the structural integrity of the promenade. Starting in April, 5,000 m³ of sand will be added to restore the natural barrier.
The Illa de Buda project in the Ebro Delta aims to repair a breach in the coastline that allowed seawater into protected lagoons. Approximately 20,000 m³ of sand will be transported by sea from Tarragona to reinforce this fragile ecosystem.
