A total of 16 beaches are flying red flags, prohibiting swimming, while 42 are flying yellow flags as a precaution. Only eight beaches maintain green flags.
The sea conditions and, in some cases, the water quality after the intense rainfall episodes, have led to these restrictions along the Tarragona coastline.
The bathing areas with the highest risk are concentrated in Cambrils, Salou, Tarragona, El Vendrell, Calafell, and Cunit, affecting a large stretch of the Costa Daurada.
In Cambrils, the beaches of Riera, l'Esquirol, Vilafortuny, and Cap de Sant Pere have red flags. In Salou, Ponent beach. In Tarragona, Arrabassada, Savinosa, Cala Jovera, and Tamarit. In El Vendrell, Francàs and Coma-ruga. In Calafell, the beaches of Calafell, l'Estany - Mas Mel, and Segur. Finally, in Cunit, Cunit Ponent and Cunit Llevant beaches also display red flags.
This situation follows the intense storms on Monday, which recorded significant rainfall, such as 77.3 liters per square meter in three hours in Tarragona and 88.6 l/m² in Vinyols i els Arcs.
The precipitation caused floods, fallen trees, and numerous incidents. For this reason, bathers are advised to respect the signage and exercise extreme caution.
