The selection of high school research projects (TREC) participating in the third edition of the Penedès IEP Awards has been presented at the Fòrum Berger Balaguer in Vilafranca. These awards recognize the effort and quality of young research in the region.
This year, 19 projects have been submitted, a slightly lower number than last year, but with a significant expansion in the geographical origin of the centers. For the first time, an institute from Anoia is included, in addition to centers from county capitals and smaller municipalities. Specifically, there are 4 projects from Vilafranca, 2 from El Vendrell, 2 from Vilanova, 1 from Sant Sadurní, 1 from Cunit, 1 from La Bisbal, and 1 from Igualada.
“"Geographically, more and more centers are submitting projects to these awards."
The finalist projects cover five areas of knowledge: history and democratic memory; anthropology and popular culture; natural sciences and environment; social sciences, education, and linguistics; technology and applied sciences; and archaeology and heritage. This thematic diversity reflects the broad interest of students in the Vegueria Penedès for different branches of knowledge.
“"The projects study topics from many points of view and give great importance to oral sources, interviews, and testimonies; this enriches their research and distances them from that artificial intelligence that teachers sometimes fear so much."
The jury, composed of eight experts from various disciplines, will evaluate the projects according to specific criteria to select the three winners. The sponsors of the awards, Serveis Mèdics Penedès and Pinnae, have expressed their pride in supporting this initiative that promotes cultural stimulation and the quality of research projects.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the gardens of the Casa-Museu Pau Casals, in Sant Salvador (El Vendrell). The event, which will feature a performance by the musical group Trifàsic amb Gel and a snack, aims to be a celebration of young research and encourage the participation of students, families, and teachers.
