After more than five hours of talks at Sants station, Renfe, the unions, and the Government reached an agreement on the conditions for resuming the service. However, train circulation remains halted across the entire network, with the exception of High Speed lines, and the Minister of Territori, Sílvia Paneque, is expected to announce the final decision this Thursday afternoon.
“"We cannot tolerate this, because safety is being guaranteed and the right to mobility of thousands of citizens in Catalonia is being affected."
The majority train drivers' union, SEMAF, has not provided a timeline for resumption and warned that trust with Renfe and Adif was broken following the two derailments. The General Director of SEMAF, Diego Martín, demanded a technical report based on an exhaustive infrastructure audit, allowing drivers to directly verify the state of the tracks, as they believe safety protocols were not met on Wednesday.
Given the situation, the Generalitat has announced complementary measures to facilitate mobility, including reinforcing frequencies of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, lifting the toll barriers on the C32 in Garraf, and temporarily eliminating restrictions in Low Emission Zones (ZBE) until January 25. Teleworking is also recommended, and citizens are advised to check the mou-te.gencat.cat website for alternative routes.
