The healthcare activity figures at Germans Trias Hospital continue their upward trend, registering a total of 21,107 major surgical procedures during 2025. This figure represents an increase of almost 1,300 operations compared to the record achieved in 2024, driven mainly by the rise in major ambulatory surgery and urgent interventions.
This growth is largely explained by the commissioning of six new high-tech operating rooms during the last quarter of last year, as part of the surgical block expansion project. This expansion, which was inaugurated by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, required a global investment of 29.6 million euros and positions the hospital as a European benchmark in high-complexity surgery.
The pioneering program for emergency surgical interventions using robotic technology is the first of its kind existing in Europe.
2025 was the first full year of operation for the pioneering 24-hour emergency robotic surgery program, launched in the autumn of 2024. This system, unique in Europe, has already treated over 200 patients, offering a minimally invasive approach in situations of maximum difficulty and significantly reducing postoperative pain.
Another technological milestone was the debut, in March, of the first pulmonary endoscopic robot in Spain, a non-invasive technology that allows diagnosing and treating pulmonary nodules with greater precision and safety, avoiding surgery and radiotherapy.
Regarding general activity, total hospital discharges exceeded 40,000 (40,375), with notable growth in major ambulatory surgery discharges and Home Hospitalization (HAD), which celebrates its 25th anniversary with an expansion to seventy virtual beds.
