The Catalan Meteorological Service issued a warning for intense downpours that could accumulate more than 100 liters per square meter, especially in the northern area of Barcelonès. Early in the afternoon, traffic on the Ronda Litoral (B-10) was cut off near Santa Coloma de Gramenet heading north due to water accumulation, causing severe traffic problems.
Regarding public transport, several metro stations were affected by leaks. The Gorg station on the L2 was closed and service was interrupted at various points on the L3 and L2, which only operated partially between Paral·lel and Artigues | Sant Adrià.
“"There are collapse situations in many parts of the city. Alarms have been sent other times when it didn't rain, and now that we needed it, it wasn't sent."
Badalona was the most affected locality, registering over 300 of the 500 incidents reported across Catalonia during Tuesday afternoon. The mayor, Xavier García Albiol, recommended that the population not go out into the street unless necessary and confirmed the evacuation of an apartment in the Llefià neighborhood due to a false ceiling collapse.
Sergio Delgado, Deputy Director of Programs for Generalitat Civil Protection, confirmed that the rains were “very erratic” and asked for caution along the coastal front of Barcelona and Tarragona. He also confirmed power supply cuts in some areas of Badalona, although no personal injuries were reported.
