The latest municipal barometer confirms a record increase in undecided voters, doubling the figure from early 2024, due to disinterest and lack of clear leadership.

The latest municipal barometer in Barcelona reveals that 43.2% of citizens have not yet decided their vote for the 2027 municipal elections, a figure that doubles previous records.

This figure, added to the 12.5% who are already certain to abstain, shows growing skepticism towards local politics, with half of those surveyed feeling no sympathy for any political group during this term. The increase in undecided voters is significant, exceeding the 28.9% recorded in the second wave of 2023.

"We had become accustomed to higher mobilization than usual because there was an electoral battle, and we cannot deny the obvious, there is a certain disinterest in politics."

Jesús Palomar · Professor of Political Science
Experts consulted, such as political science professor Jesús Palomar and consultant Ferran Fer, anticipate that the 2027 elections will revert to the historical trend of low participation in municipal elections, as the Spanish political system grants limited powers to city councils.
Palomar defines local administrations as “a city management agency,” making it harder to appeal to the emotional side of the voter. He adds that the lack of clear leadership, apart from Mayor Jaume Collboni, contributes to the uncertainty, especially within Junts, Comuns, and ERC.

"Collboni is a mayor who generates neither sympathy nor antipathy; he does not provoke great enthusiasm; in other words, he is not Maragall."
