Adif has temporarily lowered the maximum high-speed train velocity to 160 km/h on a 187 km section of the Barcelona-Madrid line after drivers reported significant vibrations and track issues.

The limitation applies to the stretch between Mejorada del Campo, near Madrid, and Cetina, 30 kilometers from Calatayud. This decision by the infrastructure manager follows reports from train drivers regarding bumps and vibrations on the track, leading them to take extreme precautions.

"It is a move by Semaf to boycott railway operations and take advantage of the moment, since the infrastructure cannot be reviewed until night."

Maintenance technicians will review the infrastructure during the night of Tuesday, and if “everything is fine,” the speed restrictions will be lifted, with circulation expected to return to normal this Wednesday. The measure comes days after the serious rail accident in Adamuz, which resulted in 41 fatalities.
The majority union Semaf, representing the drivers, had already reported the condition of some high-speed tracks to the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) last August, after detecting fissures in Avril trains belonging to the Avlo fleet.
