The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Generalitat de Catalunya have formalized a loan agreement of 300 million euros to advance the extension of line 8 of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) in Barcelona.

This financial operation is earmarked for the construction of a 4-kilometer tunnel that will link the Plaça d'Espanya and Gràcia stations, a pivotal project for enhancing public transport infrastructure in the Catalan capital.
The extension of line 8 will not only improve connectivity with the regions of Baix Llobregat, Bages, Anoia, and Vallès Occidental, but also optimize mobility across the entire Barcelona metropolitan area. This initiative aims to strengthen the public transport network and promote more sustainable commuting models, reducing reliance on private vehicles.
In addition to the construction of the new section, the project includes the creation of new stations and the modernization of existing ones, with the goal of providing a more efficient service tailored to user needs.
