Aigües de Barcelona and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell are collaborating for the fourth consecutive year to promote sustainability at the 73rd edition of the Conde de Godó Trophy, implementing measures to reduce environmental impact and encourage responsible hydration.

The partnership between Aigües de Barcelona, part of the Veolia group, and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell aims to consolidate the Conde de Godó Trophy as a leading international sports event in sustainable management. To achieve this, various initiatives are being developed to foster sustainability and reduce the tournament's environmental impact.
Among the notable actions, Aigües de Barcelona has installed fifteen tap water fountains at nine locations within the event and will distribute 2,300 reusable bottles to players, staff, press, and the public. This measure primarily aims to reduce waste, as every 1,000 liters of tap water consumed is expected to save 44 kilograms of waste and 453 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. The company will also participate in calculating the tournament's carbon and water footprints.
In the previous edition, the collaboration helped avoid 690 kilograms of waste, 6,700 kilograms of carbon emissions, and 91 cubic meters of water footprint. This year, Aigües de Barcelona also features an interactive space in the tournament's Fan Zone, where attendees can hydrate with tap water and participate in a sports challenge to raise awareness about the importance of water and the need to reduce plastic waste.

"Every reusable bottle, every liter of tap water consumed, is a step forward towards zero waste and a more sustainable and responsible model for the planet. Our commitment goes beyond installing fountains. We want this tournament to become another lever to contribute to the reduction of plastic waste."

The Trophy Room of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona hosted the 'Play for the Planet' conference, focusing on sustainability in major sports events. The event featured Tommy Robredo, former professional player and sports director of the tournament, and a panel discussion moderated by Ignasi Cubiñà. Speakers included Xavier Bernat, José María Baldasano from UPC, José Coronado from the TRAM Tournament, and Núria Hernàndez from the Barcelona City Council. The closing remarks were delivered by Berni Álvarez, Sports Counselor of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
During the conference, the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 presented its first sustainability report, a document detailing the club's environmental initiatives and commitments over the past ten years. This transparency effort aligns with the sustainability report of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Conde de Godó Trophy, which has been in place since 2021, reinforcing their role as leaders in organizing responsible sports events.
