The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) has launched the 'Impuls Besòs' project, backed by €15 million, to enhance urban river resilience and social regeneration in the metropolitan zone.

This initiative, primarily focused on improving the response capacity of urban rivers against flooding episodes, is supported by a €6 million subsidy approved by the Spanish Government.
The remaining €9 million is co-financed by the AMB and the municipalities of Badalona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. The improvements will be implemented in the Besòs Fluvial Park and include the installation of the new SAHBE hydrological alert system.
In a challenging environmental context, recycling rates in the metropolitan area remain stagnant, falling 15 points short of the European Union's targets set for 2025, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive environmental investments.
Furthermore, the Besòs Fluvial Park recently reopened following a toxic spill originating in Polinyà. This reopening, which also affected the Banys de Fòrum area in Barcelona, highlights the critical need for robust alert and emergency management systems.
