Barcelona Civil Protection activated the Municipal Emergency Action Plan in the alert phase last night due to widespread flooding caused by heavy rainfall across the city.

This activation occurred due to what is technically known as drainage insufficiency risk, as the intense precipitation caused water accumulation in various streets throughout Barcelona.
The most severe disruptions were recorded in urban mobility. Public transport was compromised with significant problems on Metro lines L2 and L3.
Furthermore, the rain caused serious traffic issues on major ring roads, such as the Ronda de Dalt, where miles of traffic jams were reported.
Authorities recommend citizens check and clean key elements such as roofs, lightning rods, drains, and downspouts, in addition to removing accumulated debris. It is also advised to disconnect electrical appliances and remove outdoor furniture and objects that could be swept away by the water.
