This confluence of events, taking place between June 9 and 10 for the papal visit, the preceding weekend for Primavera Sound, and the following weekend for F1, will lead to a significant increase in both occupancy and accommodation prices. Hotels in the city center and strategic areas, such as around the Sagrada Família, are expected to be almost fully booked.
Tourist apartments are already reporting 97% occupancy for these dates. Although June is traditionally a month of high tourist influx, with an average occupancy of 85% according to the Gremi d'Hotels de Barcelona, the addition of these major events will cause some establishments to reach full capacity.
The impact of the pontiff's visit is particularly noticeable in the Sagrada Família area. The Booking portal shows 10% fewer accommodation options on June 9 compared to a week later, and prices are considerably higher. For example, a hostel can cost from 104 euros and a higher-category hotel up to 678 euros on the day of the Pope's arrival, while a week later prices range between 88 and 600 euros.
Hotels near the Sagrada Família, such as those from the Sercotel chain, expect to be "technically full" during the religious event, which will include a mass at the temple. In addition to religious travelers, a large influx of journalists is anticipated. Luxury hotels on Passeig de Gràcia also foresee very high occupancy, although overall city prices will not reach the prohibitively high levels of other major events.
The hotel management platform SiteMinder has confirmed a 21.9% increase in bookings for June 9 and 10 compared to the previous year. The tourist apartment association Apartur indicates that legal tourist apartments will also be at 97% occupancy, being the preferred option for families arriving mainly from the rest of Spain and Europe.
The weekend of June 13, with the F1 Grand Prix, is expected to see occupancy peak, especially in luxury hotels near the coast and on Passeig de Gràcia, with prices ranging from 306 to 1,284 euros. This event attracts a large number of international fans with high purchasing power.
