The Barcelona City Council has initially approved the bases for subsidies aimed at purchasing urban electric bicycles and cargo bikes ('cargobikes'), which will come into effect on December 1, 2026.

Individuals and companies registered in Barcelona will be eligible for aid of up to 400 euros for the purchase of urban electric bicycles and up to 800 euros for 'cargobikes'. These subsidies, which will cover a maximum of 40% of the purchase price, will be effective from December 1, 2026.
Bicycle requirements include being new, equipped with a bell, lights, and reflectors, with a maximum power of 250W and pedal-assist up to 25 km/h. Additionally, they must be mandatorily registered in the Biciregistro. Individuals can receive a single subsidy, while legal entities can benefit for up to five bicycles.
The first call for applications for these subsidies will open during 2027. An allocation of up to 4 million euros is planned over the next few years, aiming to promote sustainable mobility in the city and support the acquisition of approximately 2,000 new urban bikes and 200 'cargobikes' annually over the next four years.
