Jordi Valls, Barcelona's Deputy Mayor for Economy, has strongly reacted to an Apartur survey questioning the elimination of tourist flats, labeling the association as 'cynical' for its regulatory stance.

The controversy erupted following a survey released by Apartur, the tourist flat association, which indicates that 84% of MWC Barcelona attendees view negatively the city's decision to eliminate tourist-use housing starting in 2028. The study also calls for specific regulation for these types of accommodations.

"It's a bit cynical for them to talk about regulation when for 25 years they have refused to regulate anything."

Valls made these statements during the presentation of a new aid program aimed at housing rehabilitation in the city. The Deputy Mayor stressed the importance of balancing the economic activity generated by tourist flats with the housing needs of Barcelona residents.
