The aim of this meeting is to share strategies and learnings in the renovation of these unique urban spaces, recognized worldwide and holding significant civic value. Both La Rambla and Oxford Street aim to become more pedestrian-friendly, sustainable, and resilient to climate change, blending economic activity, city life, culture, and heritage.
During the visit, OSDC representatives held working sessions with technical teams from various departments of the Barcelona City Council, including urban planning, culture, economic promotion, tourism, and the specific La Rambla transformation project. The renovation of Oxford Street, one of the world's most famous shopping streets, takes La Rambla as a key reference.
Barcelona highlighted its experience in creating pedestrian-priority spaces and the importance of citizen participation in urban transformation processes. This exchange, led by the World Cities Culture Forum, a global network of 50 cities supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, seeks to implement successful solutions from other major urban centers.
Working sessions will continue to address culture and heritage, fundamental aspects that define the identity of La Rambla and Oxford Street, as well as the cities of Barcelona and London in general.
