The campaign, part of the European Capital of Local Commerce Barcelona 2026, aims to promote purchases in proximity shops and commercial establishments in the city's streets and neighborhoods. This week, businesses can sign up, and from October 13th, citizens can start using the vouchers.
Both phases of the initiative, which notably include municipal markets, are expected to generate an estimated impact of 12 million euros in the commercial sector. The City Council is allocating 92% of the investment to direct financial aid for businesses.
Consumer Bonuses are purchase vouchers that citizens can buy for 10 euros and use for purchases over 30 euros. The initiative primarily targets everyday businesses, with criteria such as annual revenue below 50 million euros and a maximum area of 800 square meters, representing over 30,000 establishments.
Citizen participation, open to adult residents of Barcelona, will be phased to prevent hoarding of bonuses. Over 60,000 people are expected to benefit, with a maximum of up to 3 bonuses per person in each phase, encouraging shopping within their neighborhood of residence.
This measure, successfully implemented post-pandemic, is being repeated with improved functionality and a minimum purchase requirement of 30 euros to encourage larger spending. The initiative is part of the Barcelona Impulsa plan until 2035, which aims to diversify the economy and create quality employment.
