The Deputy Mayor for Economy and Housing, Jordi Valls, announced that the Barcelona City Council will collaborate with the Generalitat to intensify inspections on seasonal rentals in the city.

The offer comes just after the Parliament of Catalonia is set to approve the new regulation limiting and governing this type of tenancy. Valls confirmed, in an interview with betevé, that discussions have already taken place with the Generalitat to coordinate this enforcement action.

"We have the Housing Consortium, which is a shared instrument. Although the inspection competence belongs to the Generalitat, it is worthwhile doing them jointly with the consortium."

Previously, the Housing Consortium focused mainly on property rehabilitation and grant allocation. Its involvement will allow for pooling resources for inspection work, which is primarily the responsibility of the regional government.
The council member stressed the need to activate a wave of inspections “as quickly as possible.” This action also addresses a prior request from the ERC Municipal Group, whose representative, Elisenda Alamany, had called for greater municipal control over temporary rentals.
