The Barcelona consistory cleaned and removed 119,000 items from public roads during the first eleven months of last year, acting on 30,310 different postal addresses, according to data from the Direcció de Serveis de Neteja i Gestió de Residus obtained by ACN. This figure represents an average of 362 graffiti and elements removed daily.
Graffiti removal currently accounts for 75% of the interventions carried out by this municipal service. Comparing data from January to September, 2025 registered 8,000 more operations (a 12.8% increase) than in 2024, although it was lower than the figures for 2023 and 9% less than the peak recorded in 2022, when 79,650 interventions were reported.
The Ciutat Vella district remains the city's main hotspot, concentrating almost 30% of all municipal service interventions, with nearly 27,000 operations in nine months. These figures, added to those of Sant Martí (12%) and Gràcia (11.3%), represent more than half of the total cleaning work in the Catalan capital.
The data also reveals high recurrence, as more than one operation is recorded at 60% of the addresses (18,565 locations). Thirty specific hotspots stand out, with between 100 and almost 600 interventions in just eleven months. The main focus is the Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta, where 592 interventions were recorded at a single point. Other critical areas include Plaça Castella (also in Ciutat Vella) and Carretera Alta de les Roquetes (in Nou Barris).
Finally, citizen requests for graffiti removal have seen a significant increase. In 2023, 2,138 cases were registered, rising to 8,231 in 2024. Last year, with data available until October, more than 11,000 requests had already been formalized through the IRIS (Incidents, Claims, and Suggestions) system of the City Council.
