The Barcelona City Council, led by Mayor Jaume Collboni, announced a 14 million euro investment plan to bury the overhead electrical wiring in Torre Baró, with initial works starting this January.

The measure responds to a historical demand from Torre Baró residents, who suffer recurrent supply cuts, often caused by the theft of wiring that still hangs from poles and runs through mountain areas. This obsolete network has shown its fragility, with incidents occurring even during the Christmas holidays.

"This is a very important economic effort that the city must make. It is one of the most important decisions we will take in Torre Baró."

Jaume Collboni · Mayor of Barcelona
The first phase of work, budgeted at four million euros, will begin on Avenida Escolapi Càncer and Calle Llerona. In parallel, the remaining 10 million will be allocated to the drafting and execution of the overall project to bury aerial lines in streets such as Sant Quirze de Safaja, Travessera de Castellfollit, and Torrelles.

"This past summer we counted up to 24 days without electricity."

Valeria Ortiz · President of the Torre Baró Neighborhood Association
The intervention, which has an initial estimated duration of 54 weeks, will not only improve the safety and accessibility of the supply but also transform the urban landscape, eliminating poles and cables that degrade the environment and hinder passage on narrow streets.
