Councilwoman Carol Recio is positioned as the strategic asset for Gerardo Pisarello's candidacy in the Barcelona en Comú primaries, focusing on regaining crucial electoral support in the Nou Barris district ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.

The Barcelona en Comú primaries will conclude on February 23 with the official proclamation of the mayoral candidate for the 2027 elections. Former Deputy Mayor and current Deputy in the Congress, Gerardo Pisarello, is the frontrunner, backed by former Mayor Ada Colau and the party apparatus, competing against the writer Bob Pop.
Pisarello is running in tandem with Carol Recio, who was born in the Prosperitat neighborhood in 1980. Her selection as number two is a clear strategy by the party to reconquer Nou Barris, a decisive district where BComú significantly lost ground between 2015 (over 22,000 votes) and 2023 (just over 10,000 votes).

"We will go to the neighborhoods to talk about the neighborhoods with a neighborhood perspective."

Carol Recio · Barcelona en Comú Councilwoman
Recio, a Doctor of Sociology with a strong family background in activism (her father is the economist Albert Recio and her mother, Reyes Cáceres, was a union delegate), advocates for building upon the legacy of the Ada Colau governments. She asserts that the Barcelona City Council can drive change and “drag” other administrations on issues such as seasonal rentals or the plan against homelessness.
