Following the withdrawal of incentives for health centers to shorten sick leave, the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, stated that the Catalan executive is exploring new ways to streamline diagnostic tests. This measure aims to more efficiently assess the duration of sick leave, an issue that has caused "confusion" according to Dalmau, who advocated for a "path of consensus".
“"The Government has always defended the same thing: sick leave and returns to work are always based on medical criteria, and that has not changed and will not change, but we must find ways to accelerate diagnostic tests."
Dalmau, who is temporarily assuming the functions of the Department of Health, highlighted that more resources are already being allocated for this purpose, although the problem persists. Furthermore, he expressed his satisfaction that Barcelona will host a high-level summit of progressive leaders organized by Pedro Sánchez, emphasizing that "lately everything happens in Catalonia" and valuing it as important news after the "disconnection" of the 'procés' years.
In the political sphere, Dalmau defended the position of the PSC in the Ripoll crisis, where two councilors abstained, facilitating the approval of Sílvia Orriols' budget. He affirmed that the party acted decisively in the face of an error, highlighting Salvador Illa's leadership as a bulwark against the far-right.
Regarding the Generalitat's budgets, which the PSC is negotiating with Esquerra Republicana, Dalmau spoke of a "positive synergy" and expressed confidence in the republicans' word to have the accounts approved before the summer holidays. He also mentioned the collection of IRPF by the Generalitat, agreed upon by socialists and republicans, and asked for time for its implementation, recalling that issues such as the autonomous financing model have already been unblocked.
Finally, the minister announced the intention to expand the offer of places to learn Catalan to "accompany" the regularization of migrants, with an increase of 25,000 places already implemented. He dismissed as "nonsense" the campaign to withdraw the Creu de Sant Jordi from writer Eduardo Mendoza for his comments on April 23.
