Catalonia's journey to host the Ryder Cup 2031, set to take place at the Camiral golf club in Caldes de Malavella, has commenced with the presentation of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, a new tournament aiming to establish the region as a European golf hub.

The agreement between Estrella Damm and the European Tour was made official this Monday, marking the beginning of a strategy to position Catalonia as one of the continent's premier golf destinations. This initiative will culminate in the hosting of the Ryder Cup in 2031, one of the most prestigious events in the golf world.

"We want to build this path towards the Ryder 2031 by holding a European Tour event in different courses across Catalonia over the coming years."

Jorge Villavecchia · General Director of Damm
The first stop on this journey will be the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, a tournament that will be part of the European Swing and the DP World Tour. This competition will be held from May 7 to 10 at the Real Club de Golf el Prat, in Terrassa, being the first event of this circuit hosted by the club since the Spanish Open in 2015.
The new championship is planned to change locations in future editions and, according to Guy Kinning, executive director of the European Tour, it will become one of the most relevant tournaments on the European circuit. Its purpose is to inspire fans and generate anticipation in the years leading up to the Ryder Cup 2031.
This will be the second time Spain hosts the Ryder Cup, 34 years after Seve Ballesteros led the European team to victory in Valderrama in 1997. With the 2031 event, Spain will become the first country in continental Europe to host the competition twice, an achievement that the Minister of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Berni Álvarez, attributed to the swift collaboration between administrations and public-private cooperation.
