Emergency services of the Generalitat received over 1,000 alert calls last Tuesday due to an unexpected static storm that violently hit the coast, particularly Badalona and the Barcelonès region.

The downpour was particularly intense in Badalona, where accumulations of up to 120 liters per square meter were recorded in just a few hours. This volume caused flooding in metro stations, building entrances, and even the collapse of a roof at the Màgic Badalona shopping center.
80% of the more than 1,000 calls managed by emergency services were concentrated in the Barcelonès region. The storm was unexpected, as the meteorological forecast consistently pointed to a low-risk scenario, and no European model anticipated the actual intensity of the rainfall.

Due to this lack of accurate prediction, authorities did not activate the mobile alert system, the ES-Alert. Looking ahead, Meteocat maintains a yellow warning for intense rain on Wednesday in the Tarragona regions of Baix Ebre and Montsià, with rainfall potentially exceeding 30 l/m² in one hour.
The stability on Thursday will be brief, as a new front will enter on Friday, and the week will culminate with the arrival of a polar low-pressure system between Sunday and Monday, bringing heavy rain, storms, and snow to the Pirineu at altitudes of 1,500 meters, according to Aemet.
