Tensions continue to rise at the Camp Nou renovation site. Following previous complaints in November regarding 50 dismissals by Limak (the main Turkish contractor) and Ekstreme Works, CC OO is now protesting 30 new layoffs carried out by another subcontractor, Ramstar.
According to the union, the workers dismissed by Ramstar are in an irregular administrative situation and had not been paid their salaries for months. This vulnerability is compounded by the company allegedly pressuring employees “to immediately leave the hostel” where they have been residing for almost two years.
“"FC Barcelona must put an end to the systematic irregularities and the violation of labor rights occurring at its stadium's construction site and stop turning a blind eye."
Complaints about labor rights violations are not new. In September, the Inspección de Trabajo (Labor Inspectorate) fined Ekstreme Works one million euros for a very serious offense regarding immigration law, after detecting 79 undocumented workers. CC OO accuses Limak and the subcontractors of irregularities and the FC Barcelona of ignoring the situation.
The union demands that the Inspección de Trabajo act immediately and urges the Barcelona City Council to intervene urgently, requesting the suspension of the construction license if the “repeated and serious breaches” of labor, social security, and occupational risk prevention regulations are not resolved.
