The conference, organized by the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC), brought together researchers, institutions, and social entities to discuss youth language use in socialization spaces like sports and leisure. The event was opened by the Minister of Linguistic Policy, Francesc Xavier Vila.
Representing the CPNL, Marina Massaguer, Director of Training and Promotion, and Emma Navó, Deputy Technician for Coordination of Dynamization and Promotion at the CNL of Barcelona, presented the Consortium's experience with awareness workshops for sports professionals. Their intervention was titled "CPNL's Catalan Use Promotion Workshops in Sports: From Discourses to Linguistic Practices".
These workshops aim to encourage reflection on linguistic attitudes and raise awareness about the importance of incorporating Catalan into sports activities, based on the idea that language use can promote social inclusion and equal opportunities, just as sports improve the lives of those who practice it.
The conference also featured lectures and round tables on language use in grassroots sports, the social use of Catalan in Barcelona's leisure spaces, and the use of Basque in sports. The CPNL's participation facilitated an experience of awareness-raising and direct intervention with professionals from the sports world.
