The event, organized by the Fundació Climent Guitart in alliance with BSM, will focus on the journey of waste from the city to the marine environment, addressing topics such as prevention, water management, innovation, and the circular economy.
The first day, Friday, October 16th, will focus on knowledge, experiences, and solutions for marine pollution, analyzing the generation and path of waste towards the coast.
On Saturday, October 17th, the Plogging Day will take place, featuring a waste clean-up action at Nova Icària beach, open to the public and in collaboration with Aigües de Barcelona, as well as an underwater waste collection.
Following this, at the Moll de Mestral, workshops and educational activities will be held to explore coastal biodiversity, experiment with ocean acidification, and investigate the presence of microplastics. Participants will include the Barcelona Zoo, Anèl·lides, and the Centre Municipal de Vela (CMV).
The Plogging Congress, which originated in Lloret de Mar in 2022, has already mobilized over 8,000 participants and connected 13 countries, establishing itself as a key forum for sustainability and Mediterranean protection.
The hosting of this congress reinforces the role of the Port Olímpic in promoting sustainability and blue economy initiatives, aiming to enhance marine biodiversity and Barcelona's coastline.
The initiative is made possible through the support of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, BSM, the Fundació Climent Guitart, Sorigué, Aigües de Barcelona, ACIN Recycling Metals, the Diputació de Girona, the Fundació Costa Este, GBI Paprec, Globalimar, Barcelona Diving Club, the Club Esportiu de Mossos d’Esquadra, the Centre Municipal de Vela Barcelona, Damm, and FECDAS.
