Catalan student Marc Doco shared his experience on TikTok living in a fully equipped apartment in the prestigious Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul for a surprisingly low monthly cost of 353 euros.

In less than 70 years, South Korea has experienced a meteoric economic growth since the devastation of the Korean War in 1953, becoming a global power with a GDP of 1.87 trillion dollars in 2024. This process, known as the 'Korean economic miracle', has made companies like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai international benchmarks.
This rapid ascent, along with the expansion of its culture and gastronomy in the West, has attracted many young people. One of them is the Catalan student Marc Doco, who is currently studying the Korean language at Seoul National University and documents his life in South Korea through his popular TikTok account.
Marc Doco resides in a small studio in the Gangnam neighborhood, just 15 minutes from his class. The apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen, private bathroom, air conditioning, and a desk with a television, simplifying the setup for international students.

"When moving in, it's quite good because you have fewer things to worry about."

The cost of this accommodation is 600,000 won, equivalent to 353 euros per month, a figure much lower than rental prices in major European capitals. To study in South Korea, students from the University of Barcelona, for example, often use international mobility programs or apply directly for intensive Korean language programs at centers like Seoul National University.
