The Generalitat de Catalunya has confirmed the detection of eleven new cases of African Swine Fever in wild boars within the high-risk zone of Collserola, in Barcelona, leading to intensified containment measures.

This week, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food announced the findings, emphasizing the need to reinforce controls to halt the virus's spread.
Over the past week, 343 samples were analyzed, with 332 testing negative. The positive cases account for 3.21% of the total. Overall, 252 positive cases have been confirmed among 3,388 wild boars analyzed across eleven municipalities in the metropolitan area.
Affected localities include Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Terrassa, Rubí, and Sabadell, among others, indicating significant regional spread.
To manage the wild boar population, 294 specimens were captured in the infected zone during the last week, bringing the total to 3,325 captures within the affected area. Outside this zone, the Generalitat estimates that 26,587 wild boars have been captured so far this year.
To contain the virus's spread, 26 traps and 40 devices known as 'pig brig' have been installed. Additionally, 45 kilometers of perimeter fences have been deployed to prevent the movement of wild boars between different areas.
