The president of the municipal group and general secretary of ERC, Elisenda Alamany, has taken a firm step towards her proclamation as the mayoral candidate for the municipal elections in May 2027. Despite running unopposed in the republican primaries, the party maintained the formal process. The endorsement collection period concluded this Sunday, far exceeding the minimum of 89 required signatures with a total of 427 validated endorsements.
ERC's internal calendar dictates that the internal electoral campaign will begin on Thursday, February 12, and end on February 26. Voting, with Alamany as the only option, will take place on February 27, and the official proclamation of the candidate will follow the next day, February 28.
“"Barcelona must be an absolute priority: a republican, modern, and socially just city that leads the country."
In a prior letter to the membership, Alamany emphasized the need for a “strong pro-independence and left-wing project” in the Catalan capital, arguing that the city faces challenges such as the difficulty of living there, maintaining the language, and coexisting with mass tourism.
Other political groups are also defining their candidates. Barcelona en Comú will hold primaries between former First Deputy Mayor Gerardo Pisarello and writer Bob Pop, with the proclamation scheduled for February 23. Meanwhile, Junts per Barcelona remains delayed, with an open struggle between Josep Rius, the choice of President Carles Puigdemont, and Jordi Martí Galbis, who controls the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi local chapter.
The PSC is taking its time to formalize the current mayor, Jaume Collboni, as its candidate, a process that could extend until 2026. There will be no surprises for the PP either, where Daniel Sirera has received a direct mandate from Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Conversely, Vox has not yet started the selection process, and Aliança Catalana, which polls suggest has a chance of entering the council, will officially name its candidate on Sant Jordi (April 23).
