The Barcelona City Council has presented the Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication 2025, recognizing works on disinformation, migration, mental health, and social rights, among other topics.

The Barcelona City Council presented the Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication of Barcelona 2025 this Tuesday in the Saló de Cent, marking the 33rd edition. Driven by the Municipal Council for Social Welfare (CMBS), the awards acknowledge the commitment of journalism and communication to defending social rights, inclusion, and social cohesion.
The fifth deputy mayor, Raquel Gil, presided over the event, emphasizing the importance of social and rigorous journalism in a context of disinformation. A total of 58 entries were submitted across the categories of Social Journalism, Social Communication, and Promotion of Journalistic Research.
The awarded works address issues such as disinformation about migration, extremist discourse, mental health, social inequalities, and end-of-life rights. In the Written and Digital Press subcategory, the first prize went to the Associació Verificat for their work «Fast-check migracions. Les mentides alimenten l’odi», and the second to Albert Alexandre Marin Mestre and Jesús Rodríguez Sellés for «Odi en cerca del caos» published in La Directa.
In Audio and Podcast, the first prize was awarded to Iu Andrés for «Els nous altres catalans» (SER Catalunya), with a special mention for «Les dones i els dies: dones amb autisme» (Catalunya Ràdio). In Social Communication, the award went to the cooperative QUEPO for the campaign «No arribarà enlloc», and a special mention to the Associació Cultural El Parlante for «T’escric des de Barcelona».
The documentary «30 minuts: La bona mort» by CCMA received an award in General Social Communication. For the Promotion of Journalistic Research, two projects were distinguished: one on harm reduction policies by the Associació Xarxa Digital Catalana and another on mental health by La Directa.
The Special Jury Prize was awarded ex aequo to journalists Xavier Giró and Ignasi Aragay for their careers. The program InfoBarris from betevé was also highlighted for its community journalism. The event also served to launch the publication «Històries que transformen», which reviews three decades of social journalism linked to the awards.
