Torrential rains hitting Badalona on Tuesday, December 16, caused flash floods, the partial collapse of the Màgic shopping center roof, and metro access closures.

The city of Badalona suffered an episode of torrential rain that left more than 100 liters per square meter in Barcelonès Nord, according to Protecció Civil data. These floods are reminiscent of those experienced last August.
One of the most significant impacts occurred at the Màgic Badalona shopping center, where part of the roof gave way, allowing water to enter in the form of a large waterfall. Furthermore, the Fire Department registered 131 calls until 8:00 PM, and 1,700 homes were left without electricity, according to Endesa.

"The situation is brutal. There are different points of collapse in the city."

Xavier Garcia Albiol · Mayor of Badalona
The city council activated the Municipal Basic Emergency Plan in alert phase until 8:00 AM on Wednesday. The floods blocked major roads like Rambla Sant Joan and forced the closure of the Gorg metro station and several accesses to La Salut (L10), in addition to suspending the Tram service.
Due to a false ceiling collapse, two people were evacuated from an apartment in the Llefià neighborhood. They were assisted by Social Services and relocated to a hotel. The mayor advised residents to stay home whenever possible.
