Former FC Barcelona president Joan Gaspart testified as a witness this Friday before the Barcelona judge investigating the Negreira Case, firmly denying that the club committed any irregularities or bribed referees.

During his 40-minute appearance, Gaspart rejected the accusations leveled against the implicated former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, stating he would "put his hand in the fire" for them. He acknowledged that the club hired the services of José María Enríquez Negreira's company to produce reports on referees, arguing this is a common practice among Spanish and foreign teams.

"The Barça club has never committed any irregularity nor bought referees."

Gaspart insisted that the accusations against the club were "a lie" and were "doing a lot of damage to football" by suggesting corruption. He also downplayed the role of Enríquez Negreira, former Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees, suggesting that the real authority lay with the committee's president, Victoriano Sánchez Arminio, who passed away in May 2023.
Tax Agency reports indicate that payments to Negreira senior began in 2010, during Gaspart's presidency, although they were suspended and later resumed. Judicial sources confirm that the final destination of the 7.5 million euros has not yet been found. A recent Guardia Civil report noted that up to three million euros passed through the bank account of the ex-referee official's wife, Ana Paula Rufás, with "apparently unjustified income."
