Hospital Clínic Barcelona-IDIBAPS has been awarded eight out of seventy grants by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) in its annual call, highlighting the center's scientific and care level.

This recognition underscores the Clínic Barcelona Comprehensive Cancer Centre's capacity to lead innovative projects and train high-level professionals in oncology, solidifying its position as an international reference center.
The highly competitive SEOM grants aim to support training, international mobility, and research in medical oncology, evaluating scientific excellence and the potential impact of projects.
Several professionals from the center will undertake training stays abroad. Dr. Víctor Albarrán Fernández will train for two years at the Moffitt Cancer Center (Tampa, USA) through the SEOM Research Fellowship. The SEOM Visiting Fellowship will enable Dr. Florián Castet to spend 11 months at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Toronto, Canada) and Dr. Juan Carlos Laguna Montes to spend 12 months at the Institut Gustave Roussy (France).
In the field of resident training, Dr. Carlota Rubio Pérez will receive an SEOM travel grant for an external rotation at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Research talent was also recognized with the SEOM Award for the best doctoral thesis for young researchers, granted to Dr. Laura Angelats Company and Dr. Marta García de Herreros Dunyac.
The call funds relevant research projects, such as that of Dr. Milana Bergamino Sirvén on resistance mechanisms in breast cancer (ORQUÍDEA-PROS project).
Additionally, a grant was awarded to the SEOM Cancer, Work, and Environment Working Group, led by Dr. Laura Mezquita Pérez, for the WORKSCAN project, which will use artificial intelligence to identify cancers related to occupational activity.
These accolades solidify Clínic-IDIBAPS as a leading oncology center in Spain, demonstrating its commitment to research, innovation, and the training of high-caliber professionals.
