The incident occurred minutes before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, coinciding with the peak rush hour for vehicles entering and leaving Barcelona. The fire, which affected the rear section of the vehicle, generated intense black smoke, according to witnesses who spoke to betevé.
The situation required the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) and the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) to completely close the Ronda del Litoral in the Besòs direction, as well as the connection with the C-58 at the same location.
The incident caused several kilometers of tailbacks on the ring road towards Besòs, with queues also registered in the opposite direction towards Llobregat near Sant Adrià de Besòs.
Despite the severity of the fire, traffic was partially reopened shortly before 8 a.m. However, one lane remained closed to facilitate the removal of the burnt truck and the subsequent cleaning of the roadway.
