The Marta Mata School, located in the Verdum neighborhood of Barcelona, celebrated its 56th anniversary this Thursday with a festival that brought together students, families, and professionals to commemorate over half a century of public educational service.

The celebration, which featured a batucada by sixth-grade students, the participation of the Marina giant and the Verdum capgròs, a stick dance, and historic-gastronomic stalls, served to recall the center's trajectory, which had been unable to properly celebrate its 50th and 55th anniversaries due to the pandemic.
The center's director, Paloma Martínez, highlighted the festival's objectives: to remember and thank the work of everyone who has passed through the center, strengthen the sense of belonging and community cohesion, and open the school's doors to the neighborhood.
During the celebration, the school's new performing arts space was inaugurated, where a theatrical adaptation of the tale The Land of a Hundred Words was performed, in homage to the pedagogue Marta Mata, who gives the school its name and whose centenary is being commemorated.
The school, which opened its doors in September 1970 as Colegio Nacional Mio Cid, changed its name in 1996 to CEIP Aiguamarina, and since the 2020-2021 academic year, it has been named Marta Mata, in recognition of her work in defense of public education.
Today, the Marta Mata School defines itself as a welcoming and approachable center, committed to the integral development of children and fostering autonomy, creativity, and participation.
