The Meteorological Service of Catalonia maintains the forecast of strong, and locally torrential, showers until tomorrow, Sunday midday, mainly in parts of the central coast and pre-coast, from Selva to Tarragonès. The rains may be accompanied by thunderstorms and locally by hail, with intense rainfall possible in the central coastal and pre-coastal sector.
From Sunday, a decrease in temperature is expected, and from Monday afternoon, Catalonia could register a new episode of widespread rainfall. The emergency telephone has so far received a total of 90 calls, generating 84 rain-related incidents, mainly for information requests. Most communications originated in Barcelonès (33), Vallès Oriental (13), and Vallès Occidental (13).
The Catalan Traffic Service reports that, at present, only the GI-552 in Riells i Viabrea is closed due to flooding. Today, three Civil Protection alerts have been sent to mobile phones. At 1:20 PM, an ES-Alert was sent to Maresme, Selva, and Vallès Oriental. At 4:00 PM, an ES-Alert was sent to Barcelonès, Vallès Occidental, Baix Llobregat, and Garraf due to the forecast of locally torrential rains from 8 PM to 2 AM. At 8:20 PM, another alert was sent to mobile phones in Granollers to inform that the situation of torrential rains continues and to recommend limiting mobility.
Civil Protection urges to follow updates of the forecast and official warnings. In case of heavy rain, mobility should be reduced, and travel on secondary roads, paths, and areas prone to flooding should be avoided. It is important to stay away from rivers, streams, ravines, fords, and other low-lying areas, and not to cross areas with water accumulation, either on foot or by vehicle. If water enters a building, people should move to the upper floors and avoid basements or car parks.
