The Agency for Quality of the University System of Catalonia (AQU Catalunya) has favorably communicated the renewal of the institutional accreditation for the Faculty of Biosciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). This decision follows an external visit conducted by the evaluation committee.
AQU Catalunya's primary function includes issuing institutional accreditation reports to verify the suitability of university centers to conduct their educational activities. The procedure, established by Royal Decree 640/2021, grants university centers greater autonomy in ensuring the quality of their educational offerings, once the effectiveness of their improvement processes has been demonstrated.
Accreditation renewal requires an external visit before the six-year period since initial accreditation expires. This visit assesses the center's proper functioning according to the Guide for the institutional accreditation of university centers, approved in July 2021. If the visit is successful, the Institutional and Program Evaluation Commission (CAIP) of AQU Catalunya issues a favorable report.
During the evaluation, the committee examines key aspects such as the center's policies and strategies, the design and implementation of educational programs, student admission and progression, teaching staff, student-centered learning, support resources, the implementation of the SIGQ, and academic results. All accredited centers in Catalonia must renew their accreditation every six years.
Accreditation and external visit reports issued by AQU Catalunya are available on the EUC Informes portal. Subsequently, AQU Catalunya forwards these reports to the Consejo de Universidades, the body responsible for resolving the accreditation process. The results, along with the accreditation seal and certificate, are published on the EUC Estudis portal.
