Los domingos and Sirat lead Goya Awards 2026 nominations with 13 and 11 candidacies

The films Maspalomas and La cena also stand out with nine and eight nominations respectively in the fortieth edition of the Spanish cinema awards.

The films Los domingos and Sirat lead the nominations for the 40th edition of the Goya Awards, announced today at the Film Academy, ahead of the ceremony to be held in Barcelona on February 28.

The film Los domingos, directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, received 13 nominations, while Sirat, by Oliver Laxe, received 11. They are followed by Maspalomas, by Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi, with 9 candidacies, and La cena, by Manuel Gómez Pereira, with 8. The announcement was made at the Academia del Cine by actors Toni Acosta and Arturo Valls.
The four most nominated films, along with Sorda, by Eva Libertad, compete for the Best Film award. In the Best Director category, the nominees are Alauda Ruiz de Azúa (for Los domingos), Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi (for Maspalomas), Carla Simón (for Romería), Oliver Laxe (for Sirat), and Albert Serra (for Tardes de soledad).
Regarding performances, the nominees for Best Leading Actor are Alberto San Juan (La cena), Jose Ramon Soroiz (Maspalomas), Mario Casas (Muy lejos), Manolo Solo (Una quinta portuguesa), and Miguel Garcés (Los domingos). The candidates for Best Leading Actress are Ángela Cervantes (La furia), Patricia López Arnaiz (Los domingos), Antonia Zegers (Los Tortuga), Nora Navas (Mi amiga Eva), and Susana Abaitua (Un fantasma en la batalla).
A total of 218 Spanish films released between January 1 and December 31, 2025, competed in this edition of the Goya Awards. Of these, 122 are fiction, 87 documentaries, and 9 animation, with 67 being debut films. 18 European films and 15 Ibero-American films also compete.
