Manu Guix's new work, titled Galàxies, is presented as one of his most personal and mature creations. The EP uses the universe and space as a guiding thread to delve into themes such as love, desire, loss, and human connections. The artist, born in Barcelona in 1979, takes stock of his life and musical journey.
In an interview, Guix explained that the emotional starting point of the album stems from a moment of reflection in the middle of his life. He recalled the words of Pau Donés about the importance of loving and being loved, which prompted him to dedicate this album exclusively to love in all its facets: family, friendship, and romantic relationships.
“"I released an album in Spanish and immediately saw that where I truly felt comfortable was making music in Catalan."
The musician also addressed his advocacy for the Catalan language, recalling that his beginnings as a singer were in Spanish following his participation in Operación Triunfo 1 in 2001. However, he discovered that his true creative comfort lay in Catalan music, the language in which he has produced his latest works.
One of the EP's most intimate songs, A Més enllà dels estels, is dedicated to his father, who passed away 25 years ago. Guix described writing this song as therapy for a grief he has never overcome, and highlighted his father's importance in his early musical endeavors, despite coming from a family of doctors. The song references Planoles, a place with special meaning for the family.
Regarding his musical style, Guix combines pop with influences from soul, funk, and electronic music, drawing inspiration from artists like Stevie Wonder and Bruno Mars. He also shared his perspective on the Catalan music scene, which he believes is at its best, with abundant emerging talent, despite his personal preference for genres different from the dominant urban music.
