The new leader of Podem Catalunya, elected last June, has clearly distanced herself from her former political partners, the Comuns, whom she accuses of being a “complacent left.” In an interview with Crónica Global, Pozuelo heavily criticized the Comuns' role as preferred partners of Salvador Illa's Government, defining their stance as a “lack of courage.”
“"I don't think they are influencing the policies of the Salvador Illa Government much. We don't need any political force; we are looking for our own space to grow alone, with our brave and transformative policies."
Podem's main short-term goal is to boost municipal candidacies ahead of the 2027 elections to solidify their presence in local councils. Furthermore, the party aims to return to the Catalan Parliament independently, without relying on coalitions, despite current polls, such as the CEO barometer, not granting them representation.
Pozuelo highlighted ideological differences, particularly on housing, where Podem proposes stronger measures like market intervention and mandated rent reductions. She also firmly opposed the expansion of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, arguing that the project is incompatible with protecting the natural area of La Ricarda and benefits only “a few” at the expense of public health.
Regarding immigration, the Podem leader defended that “immigration regulates itself” and emphasized the need to regularize undocumented migrants to ensure their rights. On the new singular financing model, Pozuelo expressed caution, suggesting that “perhaps it is not the moment” to address it with a weak Government, and rejected Junts' proposal for transferring migration powers, calling it a “smokescreen” with racist undertones.
