The fifteenth edition of the Mercat de Mercats Fair closed this Sunday at Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes in Barcelona with nearly 50,000 visitors, establishing itself as a benchmark for gastronomic and market culture.

The fair, promoted by the Barcelona City Council through the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona (IMMB) and in collaboration with the Federation of Municipal Markets of Barcelona (FEMM), dedicated three days to promoting municipal markets, local produce, sustainability, and gastronomy, as part of the European Capital of Local Commerce 2026.
The event had to interrupt its activities on Saturday afternoon due to a rain alert, cancelling outdoor concerts and the barbecue service, but resumed normally on Sunday. The fair featured 19 traders from 11 municipal markets, including La Boqueria, Santa Caterina, and Galvany, offering tastings and sales of fresh produce, charcuterie, fish, meat, and seasonal products. Producers such as Postres Masgrau and Embotits de la Garrotxa were also present.
The Korean province of Jeonbuk was the international guest, showcasing its culture and gastronomy through showcookings and musical performances. The Aula Gastronòmica (Gastronomic Classroom) offered over 20 activities with renowned chefs like Oriol Castro (Disfrutar), Diego Mondragon and Germán Espinosa (Mae), Iñaki Aldrey (Atempo), and Carlota Claver (La Gormanda), alongside a solidarity session with Palestinian chef Husam Dawoud and chef Ada Parellada.
The tasting area, La Bodegueta, featuring INCAVI and DAMM (celebrating its 150th anniversary), has solidified its status as an emblematic space. A new addition this year was the Terrassa del Llac, serving as a new gastronomic area and a hub for various fair activities, including concerts and DJ sets. The fair underscored its commitment to sustainability by avoiding single-use plastics and using biopropane energy.
