The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has activated the yellow warning for locally heavy rain and storms expected to affect the coast and pre-coastal areas of Catalonia throughout Monday and Tuesday.

Meteorological stability comes to an end in Catalonia after the anticyclone lost strength, concluding the period of dry weather and unusually high temperatures that dominated the first half of December. The Atlantic low-pressure system Emilia caused a radical shift on Sunday, bringing precipitation and a drop in temperatures.
The forecast for Monday announces an unstable day with clouds and generalized showers, especially on the coast, pre-coastal areas, and the central depression, where 10 to 20 l/m² could accumulate. These showers will be locally strong and may be accompanied by thunderstorms, which is why Meteocat maintains the yellow alert.

Snowfall will appear in the Pyrenees, leaving a few centimeters of snow on the southern slope of the mountain range, while the Levante wind will blow with gusts of up to 40 km/h.

The weather will remain unstable on Tuesday, with rain concentrated on the coastal strip and pre-coastal areas, maintaining the yellow warning. Weak rain is not ruled out in parts of the Pre-Pyrenees, such as in the regions of Solsonès, Pallars Jussà, or Alt Urgell. A progressive improvement is expected starting Wednesday, although rain will be concentrated in the south of Tarragona, including Montsià and Baix Ebre.
