The Rodalies service in Catalonia suffered a new collapse this Monday, January 26, with two total interruptions in less than two hours due to a failure at the Adif control center in Estació de França.

The railway week started with the same instability that ended the previous one. An incident at the Adif control center in Barcelona's Estació de França caused the suspension of all Rodalies and Regional lines twice during the morning, within an interval of less than two hours. The service, which had been partially resumed as announced on Sunday, failed again at 6:45 am.

"All the traffic lights turned red."

The Ministry of Transport and Adif do not rule out that the double incident was due to a cyberattack. Minister Óscar Puente confirmed the hypothesis, although there are still no conclusions. Meanwhile, the discontent of the Generalitat de Catalunya erupted, demanding that responsibilities be immediately assumed by Adif and Renfe, calling the situation “unsustainable” due to the serious accumulation of incidents.

"We do not know the reasons why it happened. One of the hypotheses is a cyberattack, but we do not know yet."

The president of Renfe, Álvaro Fernández Heredia, and the president of Adif, Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña, appeared in Barcelona, prioritizing safety and the investigation of the Gelida accident. They avoided giving a date for the total restoration of the service. Furthermore, other alterations were recorded, including a partial interruption in Girona due to a possible landslide and high-speed delays in Tarragona.
Given the inability of thousands of people to reach their workplaces, the Government activated the teleworking decree and reinforced interurban bus lines. The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, described the situation as “inadmissible, intolerable and must never happen again”.
