The objective of the new aid line from the Generalitat de Catalunya is to expand the offer of Catalan language training, especially at basic levels, in municipalities with fewer than 17,500 inhabitants and through private entities. 1.4 million euros have been allocated to this call, with plans to invest a minimum of 1.5 million in 2026.
“"There are people who have lived in the town for 25 years and who, with the excuse of the course, have now started speaking Catalan."
These courses are crucial for linguistic reception and are a requirement for immigrants to obtain the residency document (arrelament). Entities such as the Fundació Bayt al-Thaqfa in Barcelona have been able to expand their social support with linguistic assistance for Arab or Muslim newcomers.
“"Knowing Catalan in the Garrotxa allows you to press the button for the first floor of the social elevator."
The Minister of Linguistic Policy, Francesc Xavier Vila, stressed the need to create a system that is "more robust, more flexible, territorially balanced, and connected to the social reality of the country". The administration is deploying an 8.8 million shock plan to relaunch Catalan language teaching for adults.
