It was a much-desired pregnancy. Irene Cordero, her husband, and their daughter were expecting the family's second child, and after a first pregnancy without any problems, no one anticipated that anything could go wrong. At 11 weeks, the first ultrasound arrived, and with it, the news. Rage, fear, loneliness, and a sadness difficult to put into words, she recalls.
What surprised her most was what came next. Well-intentioned phrases, such as "you'll have another in two months" or "you should be fine after a month," which instead of comforting, invalidated the loss. It was then, she explains, that she became aware of the void in emotional support for this grief and how little it is discussed.
During that year, she received therapeutic support to integrate the loss of Gael. The following year, she suffered a second loss, also at 11 weeks. In her words, it was two very intense years of much learning, and they are the origin of one of the services offered by Irene Holística: support for gestational grief.
The proposal is to offer women a safe space to express themselves, release emotions, and experience their grief at their own pace, accompanied by someone who has been through the same thing. Irene works from holistic therapy with a trauma-informed approach and sees clients both in person and online.
Irene has been a therapist since 2017, accompanying women in their personal transformation processes; and since 2018, also in integrating grief and gestational grief. Since she started, she has continuously trained and worked on her self-awareness to add value to her sessions. Today, this translates into various support services for women, both for grief and gestational grief, and self-esteem enhancement programs like the 'Volver a ti' program, designed for those who feel blocked and insecure when moving forward.
